NTT DoCoMo working on interbody data transfers – talk about body language

NTT DoCoMo working on NFC technologyIt’s one thing to “beam” data to another person or device. But it’s something entirely different to use your own body for electronic communication. NTT DoCoMo is working to develop a commercial application of their prototype mobile device that uses the human body as a communication medium. The technology allows the user to unlock doors, make payments, and transfer data to friend by simply touching the other device/person.

The prototype can only transmit data at 40KBps (kilobytes per second) so far, but you can be sure that NTT DoCoMo is working on building more speed into the system. NTT DoCoMo’s prototype devices use sensor technology from Kaiser Technology Company, and the Japanese wireless operator is working to bring the technology to various devices.

Talk about “body language.” There’s been plenty of talk over the years about technology that would use human electrical system to transmit low-volume data through a simple handshake, so we’re excited to hear that someone is actually working to bring this tech to market – especially with decent throughput. Just think, in a few years time, your “high-five” to your buddy just might send him a text message – that’s cool.
