Forget bone-conducting microphones – NS-ELEX develops in-ear microphone

Bone conducting headsets are good for picking up clearer sounding voice in less-than-quiet environments. That is, as long as you like having the microphone located externally to your ear.

A Japanese company called NS-ELEX has just released their new in-ear earpiece/microphone technology. The “e-Mimi-kun” is basically a Bluetooth headset or a wired headset for your phone. Using a microphone that fits inside your ear, the “e-Mimi-kun” picks up air-vibrations to transmit your voice to your listener. The in-ear design is said to reduce ambient noise by a factor of 6, while the on-board electronics from Sanyo further reduce ambient noise to a factor of 10.

We imagine that construction workers and airport personnel will be lining up for this new breed of noise-canceling technology. The rest of us will just use our Aliph Jawbones and Gennum nx6000 Bluetooth headsets.
