Verizon prepping PRADA-like LG VX9700 for slim touchscreen duty

Sure, Verizon’s already offering the LG Voyager as their touchscreen monster for all you gotta-feel-it types on Verizon’s network. It’s just too bad that the full touchscreen, qwerty-keyboard, stereo speakers, and the flip form-factor put the LG Voyager on just the other side of svelte – who are we kidding it’s a veritable brick. The slimmer and sleeker LG Viewty boasts the same full-body touchscreen but does away with some considerable girth by nixing the qwerty keyboard. Unfortunately, the LG Viewty is a GSM jobby, and AT&T will be launching it as the AT&T Vu. Feeling burned by Verizon’s CDMA network yet?

LG VX9700 prepped as LG PRADA for Verizon

No worries, Verizon customers will be glad to hear that there’s an LG PRADA variant headed your way. The LG VX9700 just passed FCC muster and is now reportedly suiting up to pull duty as the slim full-touchscreen offering from Verizon Wireless. The thin touchscreen handset from LG is rumored to be rocking a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl-Zeiss optics to fill that high-end cameraphone void in your life. MicroUSB and microSD card slot are also rumored to be featured in the LG VX9700.

Oh and check out that Main Menu screen. Nifty eh? I actually had a chance to play with that exact menu setup at Mobile World Congress 2008 Barcelona. Synaptics was showing off their different touchscreen offerings and one of the devices was an LG PRADA lookalike with this setup (I’m not sure if the handset was the LG VX9700, but it’s unlikely). The Main Menu is designed to be navigated via circular touchscreen inputs. You “fly” through a collection of Main Menu icons as you draw circles onto the touchscreen.

We’re hearing that a month-end launch is possible, but could get delayed out to May or April 2008.
