Ubuntu for mobile to debut on October 18th

As we posted earlier, Ubuntu Linux is set to hit the mobile space. Version 7.10, also known as “Gutsy Gibbon,” will be the first one ever to include new Mobile and Embedded editions that will target “hand-held devices and other mobile/embedded form factors.” It will use components from the Hildon UI, developed by Nokia and used in their N800 Internet Tablet.

Get set for October 18th when the new Ubuntu will be released. Are we about to experience a major breakthrough? Not from the start, if you ask me. Still, we should note that Dell is now part of the Ubuntu ecosystem, and who knows what are they planning to pull. Suddenly, that Sony Ericsson P990i running Ubuntu clip doesn’t look too far away…
