Verizon: We don’t need no iPhone “killer” – we have better services!

So, it turns out that Verizon won’t be relying on a single, or even a couple, iPhone “killing” handsets in their battle to win over customers from AT&T. Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg said, at a NXTcomm press event, that the company is betting that the services offered from a carrier are just as, if not more, important than the actual devices. Seidenberg went so far as to say that Verizon even had a far more loyal user-base.

Seidenberg stated that, “We just added four new devices in the past month,” adding that, “The new BlackBerry is flying off shelves. The way we see it, our customers have price points and service packaging that is different.”

Why is Verizon changing their tune? After claiming that they have devices that would compete with the iPhone, they flip-flop and say that they don’t need them. Are they trying to save face for turning down the iPhone? Do they just not have their iPhone “killer” devices prepped? Who knows, all we know is that Verizon is gonna need some really slick services if they’re going to weather the coming iPhone storm. (Although, we have to admit that the VCast TV feature is pretty trick – too bad only a handful of phones are compatible.)
