Uninor

After 8 month after acquiring India’s Unitech and effectively getting 74% of the company, Telenor’s new Indian operator, Uninor, started its operations recently calling it “the largest single-day launch” in the country’s history. Services were launched simultaneously across multiple circles, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh East, Uttar Pradesh West and Bihar (Jharkhand included), covering almost 600 million people. Moreover, national roaming agreements are in place to provide coverage elsewhere in the country.

Uninor says its services will be sold at over 210,000 retail points via 1,000 exclusive distributors in the seven circles. Minute of local calls will cost 0.29 INR ($0.006), whereas national long distance calls will be available for 0.49 INR per minute.

Telenor’s goal is to control 8% of the ever-growing Indian market by 2018.
