Sprint awards New York Metropolitan WiMAX network build out to SprintIn a double-whammy announcement from Sprint. The New York Metropolitan area has been added to the list of markets slated for the rollout of the Sprint WiMAX network. And, to build-out that WiMAX market, Sprint has tapped Samsung for a little infrastructure help.

The Washington Post reports that Samsung will be building the NYC network, and will also be providing the chips and handsets that will work on Sprint’s WiMAX XOHM network. The New York WiMAX market will add to Samsung’s WiMAX infrastructure build-out efforts in the Washington, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Providence, R.I. and Boston markets.

Bring on the 4G networks, Sprint! We’d love to get a taste of that WiMAX goodness by the end of this year. Make it happen, okay?
