Tag Heuer Meridiist gets real – €3,400 worth of high-end luxury cellphone

Tag Heuer Meridiist gets realRemember that spendy Vertu killer from high-end Swiss watchmaker Tag Heuer? You know, the Tag Heuer Meridiist with a 4-digit price tag? All you wealthy mobile phone enthusiasts with more dollars than sense will be happy to hear that Tag Heuer has gone official with the Meridiist.

With a fresh new set of press shots to help glam up its image, the €3,400 to €3,900 (about $5,338 to $6,123) Tag Heuer Meridiist (depending on options) has officially rushed onto the scene in all its full metal-body glory. As expected, that $6,000 will get you a Sapphire crystal display, 2 megapixel camera, 1.9-inch QVGA display, OLED 96×76 pixel secondary display, Bluetooth, leather trim, and a metal casing. And, you’ll be good to go for 7 whole hours of talk time.

The Tag Heuer Meridiist is indeed made by Modelabs – the same people that brought us the Levi phone. As a high-end, uber-luxury handset alternative to the super-pricey Vertu mobile phones, Tag Heuer looks poised to take on the ridiculously high-end cellphone market. Tag Heuer knows a thing or two about quality craftsmanship and precision – things that really add to the in-hand feel of a device:

  • 430 components were designed with the best engineering laboratories and assembled by hand in France
  • The 316L stainless steel was manufactured with the most complex technologies to ensure luxury finishes
  • Scratch resistant sapphire (second hardest material after diamond)

Whether that added quality is worth a several-fold increase in retail price is debatable.

We’re looking for a Q2 launch, so expect the Tag Heuer Meridiist to be available sometime very soon.
