Samsung introduces Samsung Pixon 8 megapixel cameraphone

Leave it to the South Korean consumer electronics giant to stuff an 8 megapixel auto-focus camera with face detection and geo-tagging support into a 13.8mm thick package that boasts a 3.2-inch touchscreen display. Samsung has unveiled their Samsung Pixon handset for cameraphone power-users that need nothing less than 8 million pixels of imaging resolution. The Samsung Pixon takes the company’s sleek yet feature-packed design philosophy and manages to pack in an 8 megapixel image sensor that’s capable of recording video at 60 and 120 fps – and there’s an LED flash to help out in marginal lighting conditions.

While the Samsung Pixon sports a quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE radio for truly global capability, the single-band (2100Mhz) UMTS/HSPA (3G) radio ensures that this mega-megapixel cameraphone will be staying out of the US mainstream market.

Come mid-October, lucky Europeans will be getting their hands on the Samsung Pixon’s 8 megapixel camera, FM radio with RDS, TV-out jack, and microSD card slot. Pricing details aren’t known at this time, but expect to pay a pretty penny for this slick uber-cameraphone.
