Isis mobile payments launching in September with few devices from every major carrier

Isis will finally launch its mobile payments service in September with citizens of Austin, TX and Salt Lake City first to get it. We’ve no doubts the expansion to other places will follow soon afterwards, and in the meantime T-Mobile is rolling out a new update for the Samsung Galaxy S II that will make the device ready for Isis.

When it comes to which devices will be compatible with the mobile payments service we have the list of phones that MasterCard has given Isis approval to. Here’s what we get when we divide it [list] by carriers:

  • Verizon: DROID Incredible 4G LTE, Samsung Galaxy S3
  • AT&T: Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X
  • T-Mobile: HTC Amaze 4G, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S2

Not exactly a big list, but then again – NFC-equipped phones are still a minority. You can see the full list from this PDF file at MasterCard’s website.

Now we’re hoping MasterCard, Isis and other members of this ecosystem will include even more devices and carriers to the mix and eventually make mobile payments mainstream. We’ll be here to tell you how that goes. Stay tuned…
