Motorola Xoom and Nexus S to stay on Android 4.1.2

Google may have begun sending the Android 4.2 OTA update to Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 devices, but if you’re holding onto a Nexus S or Motorola Xoom, you best get comfortable with Android 4.1.2.  Why is that? Well, it looks like the first Android 3.0 tablet or the 2nd generation Nexus S won’t be getting the bump to 4.2. Officially, at least.

While we’re not terribly surprised to see the Nexus S and it’s single-core Hummingbird CPU is being left out of the update, the Motorola Xoom, while aging, seems like it should definitely be able to handle the update. In reality, both of the devices will likely be able to handle the update, but it’s likely the choice of Google to stop supporting these devices. With the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 Google’s top priority in the Android realm, this can’t be much of a blow to the informed. That said, if you’re still rocking one of these devices, the news can’t feel that great. Either way, if you still have a Nexus S, you’re likely due for an upgrade, no?

It looks like Nexus S and Motorola Xoom owners will have to march on to with custom ROMS going forward. Or you can just get a Nexus 4 and Nexus 10.
