LG finds religion, releases “Islamic” phones just in time for Ramadan

Some countries are more religious than others, that’s simply a fact. I’m not going to poo poo any particular religion since I think they’re all terrible attempts at castrating the hopes, dreams and aspirations of men, women and children around the world by inducing fear and in some cases even hate. That being said, LG is tapping into the religious fundamentalist market with the GD335 and KP500N mobile phones. What makes these devices “Islamic” exactly?

Launching across the region this August, pan-Arab consumers will benefit from a number of special features, including a Qiblah indicator that uses an inbuilt longitude and latitude orientation or city references that, when used in comparison to the magnetic north, indicates the direction of the Qiblah. The two phones also come complete with Adhan and Salah prayer time alarm functions as well as Quran software, the Hijiri calendar and a Zakat calculator.

The KP500N has a 3.2 megapixel camera, while the GD335 has a 2 megapixel camera, and beyond that there is no remarkable difference between these two fones. Nokia tried something like a long time ago with the Nokia N73 Ramadan Edition, but they’ve yet to release figures stating how successful that model was in the market. I’m all for companies trying to improve their bottom line, but stuff like this is bound to piss off the Christian fundamentalist crowd. I bet someone is going to leave a comment on this blog post saying I’m a faggot loving atheist who will burn in hell.

I love the internet because of those kind of people.
