Samsung drops SGH-J200 candybar – the lower end E590

Samsung SGH J200 candybar is the low end Samsung SGH E590

Remember that Samsung SGH-E590 that rocked a 3.2 megapixel camera and branded by industrial designer Jasper Morrison? Well, it seems that Samsung has seen fit to bring us a lower-end (and lower-priced) version of that sleek looking candybar. The new Samsung SGH-J200 looks almost identical to the E590, but lightens the spec-sheet with a tri-band GSM radio (900/1800/1900Mhz), 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD card slot, 1.8″ display, and a VGA front-facing camera for video-calls.

With a lesser feature-set than it’s E590 cousin, the Samsung J200 should hit a price point 30% lower than the Jasper Morrison-branded E590.

While we like the idea of bringing a lower-end version of a successful handset to market, we’re not sure why the higher-end Samsung E590 doesn’t rock the front-facing VGA camera that the Samsung J200 does. Either way, we like the clean lines of these two candybars – but does it remind anyone else of a certain unreleased mobile phone?
