Contact UsBen is a 10+ year veteran of the Mobile industry – starting his career when SMS was a still a relatively new concept for most people (!), he has now consulted on everything from bleeding-edge Mobile content, to the next-gen accessories you might view it on. As a result he has a broad and deep knowledge in numerous areas of Mobile – from network operators to device vendors, to infrastructure and middleware vendors (not to mention content delivery) – and has worked for companies in all of these areas! He is based in the UK, a hotbed of activity for mobile, and recently became a father for the second time – as oppose to in his younger years when he was happy spend time tweaking all manner of mobile devices to 'nth' degree, he now looks for services and hardware that provide the most efficient, compact, and reliable improvements to his already manic life! It’s his opinion that Mobile solutions should be there to help to make your life better – if a particular solution (be it service or device) isn’t doing this, he believes you need to ask the very important question of why you continue to use it... His focus at IntoMobile is mainly on Mobile content, services, and infrastructure, particularly as regards the UK market – and with the occasional look at devices. Additionally, using his extensive experience in the industry, he will provide commentary on the industry at large, with regular (and hopefully thought-provoking) articles.
Nice… the HTC Desire is now available in the UK SIM-Free, from more than one e-tailer – however the only one that contacted me direct is eXpansys (see pic above), so they get dibs on the linkback We all know a lot about the Desire already, but having got one in my grasp now (finally), I can say it’s an exceptionally good device – providing a level of polish that dethrones the iPhone (yes, I can say that as an iPhone owner too). I’ve yet to get the full feeling … Read more
Vodafone has announced that developers can publish apps to the Vodafone 360 Shop through the JIL.org website. For those of you that don’t know, JIL stands for Joint Innovation Lab, which Vodafone has a particular spin on for their Vodafone 360 offering (think social networking/apps mashup service, and you’re about there…). Through JIL.org, developers can publish apps to selected Vodafone operating companies in Europe. Developers can choose to select from one, some or all of the selected markets for each app they publish. Vodafone offers developers a number of compelling … Read more
Wow. Samsung are going all out to reach right down in to the base-tier of handset pricing, knocking out handsets on PAYG in the UK starting at just under £30! I’ve actually got a direct marketing email from Samsung about numerous handsets and their great prices: Samsung Tocco Lite – £69.95 on multiple networks Samsung Genio Touch – £59.95 on multiple networks Samsung C3050 – £29.95 on Orange In case you were wondering what £30 (or thereabouts) buys you specs-wise: Quad Band VGA Camera MP3 player FM Radio microSD Card … Read more
Vodafone UK is working with British Gas to help Britons save money as well as reduce their energy use. Vodafone UK will support British Gas in the roll out of smart metering in the UK. A multi-million pound contract will see Vodafone UK provide nearly 1 million GPRS connections within household meters to help families monitor the energy they use, leading to cost savings and reduced CO2 emissions. Families will no longer need to wait in for someone to read their energy meter. Instead they will automatically receive a bill for … Read more
I’m happy to tell you that IK Multimedia has announced its GrooveMaker range of remixing apps for the iPad. Usually I’m not so overboard with praise for things, but these Apps are ‘da bomb’ for those of you into ‘casual productivity’ – that is, playing with Apps, but having something to show for your efforts at the end of it! Groovemaker for the iPhone has been insanely popular (and with good reason I think) – they cleverly seeded the market with a free app, and since then have racked up … Read more
Following on from my post last week about T-Mobile re-designing the ‘My T-Mobile’ part of their site, Verizon has gone and done the same apparently! One of our readers (thanks Johnny!) spotted the changes, and pinged us a URL to take a look at – and wouldn’t you know it, it’s re-design central! Fascinatingly, one thing that has remained the same is the ‘My <Operator>’ Syntax – it’s as if no-one could think of a better name for it – and actually what really counts is what’s on the other … Read more
We’ve got news from our buddies at Electricpig that two new Acer devices, both packing copious amounts of Android, are checking in for pre-order in the UK. The Acer beTouch E400 device (with Android 2.1), is now on eXpansys for pre-order, rocking in at £264.99 SIM-free. It’s not a mega-monster in the power stakes, with only (he says) a 600MHz CPU, and a 3.2 inch resistive (arch) touchscreen. The camera is 3.1MP. So a middle-league device, but at a very reasonable price. I should also say the device is only … Read more
Vodafone UK Pay as you Go customers can now get the Vodafone 360 Samsung M1 for just £80 – with the first 30 days of web browsing and £50 worth of calls and texts included, making it even better value! I’ve not had had much time with the M1, but from all accounts it’s quite a feature-rich device – and of course, since Samsung did a custom job on the software and hardware for Vodafone, it is very well-optimised for the 360 service – think HTC Sense style of customisation, … Read more
Orange has announced that it is introducing three new mobile gaming offerings, building on its position it believes it has as the number one operator for mobile gaming. The offerings are called Playtomo, Games Zone, and Orange iPhone Games, and are described as: Playtomo, a social gaming service allowing all UK customers to play games for free and share the fun with friends through social networking sites on their mobile phones (went live on 29th March 2010) Games Zone, a subscription gaming service offering Orange customers two free games each month, … Read more
According to our buddies at Fonehome.co.uk, the Palm Pre Plus, and Pixi plus have been passed by the GCF (Global Certification Forum), which apparently indicates that they will be heading to the UK soon. We all know the Palm Pre Plus has more RAM and storage than its predecessor, along with some improvements to the slider – but fewer changes were made to the Pixi Plus – notably just the one big ticket item of WiFi being added. All of this though is in the face of Palms fairly dire situation … Read more
Nice and brief this one – the HTC HD Mini and the HTC Desire have been spotted making an appearance in the April edition of the O2 monthly magazine. This magazine is one that is effectively a polished-up sales brochure, which you’ll find in most, if not all, O2 stores. Anyway, moving on to big ticket items here – HTCs latest devices finally appear to be getting ranged on the O2 network! O2 haven’t really shown their hand as regards the latest in the HTC range (HD Mini, Desire, Legend), … Read more
