NYC Begins Free Wi-Fi, Cellular Service Rollout in Subway Stations

The New York Metropolitan Transit Authority is rolling out Wi-Fi and cellular service to 30 stations across the city, including stations in mid-town Manhattan, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Lincoln Center and Columbus Circle. The infrastructure was rolled out by Transit Wireless, which has a reseller agreement with Boingo Wireless, who provides the Wi-Fi connectivity. Sprint Rolling Out Premium Suite For Samsung Galaxy S III Owners

Sprint Samsung Galaxy  S III owners are in luck today, as they will be receiving Samsung’s Premium Suite upgrade on their devices, with Sprint rolling out build MD4. While the Galaxy S III was updated in October 2012 to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but it lacked the Premium Suite upgrade that brings some of Samsung’s fancy new software and features to the device. Sprint delays in-store launch of the Galaxy S4

Sprint chimed in today and confirmed that inventory constraints have forced the carrier to delay the in-store launch of the Galaxy S4. According to the statement, Sprint will start selling the Galaxy S4 on Saturday, April 27 both online and through telesales. The in-store launch, also originally scheduled for the 27th, will be delayed until Samsung is able to provide Sprint with sufficient inventory of the flagship handset. ACLU Asks FTC to Investigate Carriers Over Security Risks, Delayed Android Updates

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) issued a formal complaint to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Wednesday. In it they contend that Mobile Carriers are creating security risks for their customers by not releasing updates in a timely manner. Softbank confirms it intends to close Sprint deal by July 2013

Dish may be courting Sprint with $25B in cash and stock, but Softbank still believes that it will win the hand of the US carrier in the long run. Verizon Wireless eyeing Clearwire spectrum

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Verizon Wireless is negotiating a deal with Clearwire to lease its spectrum. Verizon allegedly offered Clearwire $1.5 billion to use some of Clearwire’s spectrum in larger markets.
