Looks like Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular will both get a new Kyocera phone in the near future. The Big Red carrier will soon add the Kyocera Elite, which looks like a “standard” all-touchscreen Android smartphone, most likely with LTE connectivity support. As for U.S. Cellular, its Kyocera XTRM is a rugged device that reminds on the Torque, another Kyocera’s tough smartphone. Specs are not released for any of the two phones, and we’re also pretty clueless about the availability. However, since the press images are out, the chances are Read more

U.S. Cellular long ago confirmed plans to eventually release a Windows Phone 8 device on its network. A recent comment made by the carrier on its Facebook page suggests the first one is finally on its way. After posting a photo of a Samsung phone on the page, a Facebook user simply commented on the photo with the message “Get Windows Phone.” About 30 minutes later, U.S. Cellular responded confirming that it is “working on the launch of a Windows 8 device.” For all intents and purposes, I think it’s Read more

Verizon Drops Price of Samsung Galaxy S III to $99

Verizon has dropped the price of its 16 GB version of the Samsung Galaxy S III to $99 with a new contract agreement, heralding the impending arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S4 on the network. While we have not heard a peep from Verizon about the date of availability of Samsung’s new flagship phone, a price cut this deep leads us to believe that Verizon would like to clear its backstock of the Galaxy S III to make way for Samsung’s shiny new handset. A few carriers have announced a Read more

US Cellular, Samsung launch Jelly Bean update for Galaxy Axiom

US Cellular’s Galaxy Axiom is getting the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update that includes Google Now capabilities, Project Butter enhancements as well as actionable push notifications. For some reason, the carrier-specific version of Galaxy S III Mini was launched with Ice Cream Sandwich on board and we’re pleased to see it getting this treatment that will effectively make it on par with the international version of Sammy’s smartphone. Again, the Galaxy Axiom (and the “regular” Galaxy S III Mini for that matter) comes with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4-inch WVGA Read more

US Cellular to allow select customers test drive its network and devices before paying a single dime

US Cellular launched a new initiative to allow select customers to test out its network before paying a single dime. Customers in select cities — including Knoxville, Tennessee; Medford, Oregon; and Rocky Mount, North Carolina — will be able to practically borrow devices for one week, see if they like them and only them pay for the service (and device). The tier-two carrier is pretty much forced into this position as it struggles to add new customers, competing with the big boys like AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon. Here’s what Read more

Some time ago we’ve told you that US Cellular will join Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 ride and launch such smartphone at some point in the future. Apparently that could happen in the next few days or weeks with Samsung SCH-R860U getting FCC’s seal approval and effectively making the device ready to be sold on the U.S. soil. But how we know this phone is slated to hit US Cellular’s portfolio? We don’t have that information confirmed, only the hint of Japanese Blog of Mobile. Then again, we tend to believe Read more

Verizon Wireless and US Cellular used their respective twitter accounts to announce that each one will be carrying the Galaxy S 4 when it launches in the upcoming month or so.
