A slideshow outlining AT&T (NYSE: T)’s entire lineup of upcoming handsets has snuck out and is showing some very impressive hardware, notably the BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Onyx we’ve been seeing so much of lately, but also a few surprises from HTC. HP’s even got a new iPAQ coming. Gasp! Here’s what’s coming:

Palm Eos - Palm (NSDQ: PALM)’s next WebOS handset, packing a traditional full-QWERTY layout. Due second half.

BlackBerry Onyx - The keypad in the slide looks distinctly different from what we’ve seen earlier today. Also, the image stablization feature for the camera sounds new. No model number set, no release date given.

BlackBerry Gemini - First BlackBerry to use a touchpad instead of trackball. “Potential” GPS option. No model number set, no release date given.

BlackBerry Pearl 3G - Pictured as a classic candybar, now with 3G for GSM carriers. First we’ve heard of it, and long overdue, considering EV-DO capable Pearls have been around for awhile. The Pearl 3G will have tri-band UIMTS, HSDPA clocking in at 3.6 Mbps, aGPS, “high-resolution” screen, camera, Bluetooth, SureType, microUSB. No model number set, no release date given.

BlackBerry Magnum - “BlackBerry Bold porfolio evolution”, full QWERTY keypad plus touch. Same processor as Bold, tri-band UMTS, quad-band GSM, HVGA screen, more memory. No model number set, no release date given.

HTC Fortress - AT&T’s Touch Pro2 running Windows Mobile 6.1, hinting at Windows Mobile 7 for September. Full slide-out QWERTY keypad with 3.6″ WVGA 480 x 800 touchscreen. Due May 25.

HTC Warhawk - AT&T’s Touch Diamond 2 running Windows Mobile 6.5. 3.2″ WVGA 480 x 800 touchscreen with TouchFlo 3D UI.  Due August 24th.

HTC Lancaster - New Android handset with side-sliding QWERTY keyboard (otherwise looks similar to the Magic). 2.8″ QVGA 240 x 320 touchscreen. Dual-band HSDPA, tri-band GSM, aGPS, Bluetooth. “Unique HTC Social Messaging User Interface” sounds promising. Due August 3rd, but could see delays due to UI customization.

iPAQ K3 - Full QWERTY handset codenamed Obsidian to launch with Windows Mobile 6.5. Tri-band HSDPA, quad-band GSM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, aGPS, 2.8″ QVGA touchscreen (no stylus), 2 megapixel camera with LED flash, 256 MB RAM. Proximity and light sensor also built-in. Due November 30.

All of that on top of the four Nokia devices and two Motorolas that leaked earlier. Hooah! Thems a lotta phones.

Verizon Wireless to launch HP Mini 1151NR netbook on May 17th?

Verizon Wireless to launch HP Mini 1151NR netbook

It seems Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Wireless is gearing toward launching not one but two cool products on May 17th. We’ve already mentioned the portable 3G hotspot device MiFi 2200, and now we’re hearing the carrier will also unveil the HP Mini 1151NR netbook with integrated EV-DO radio.

The bad news is the rumored price. Apparently, Verizon will ask $199 for the netbook on a two-year contract. Bare in mind that this contract involves monthly cost of at least $40, which makes the total cost of ownership of the HP Mini astronomical. This seems like a deal designed for those who already thought about buying a netbook, but needed a reason more to push the button. Well, now you got it, though it would make more sense if Verizon could offer HP’s baby for hundred bucks. That would make the deal much sweeter…

Former Palm director joins HP to revive the smartphone business?

By Dusan Belic on Monday, May 11th, 2009 at 1:24 AM PST
In HP, Rumors

HP iPAQ Data MessengerFormer Palm (NSDQ: PALM) senior director Jonathan Oakes’ LinkedIn profile shows that he’s now an HP employee. As a matter of fact he jumped to HP’s Emerging Businesses Unit, which deals with iPAQ smartphones and general mobile business and custom PC software.

Expectantly HP declined to comment why they need Jonathan, but the rumor says he’ll help the company revive its smartphone business. And while we’ve no clue how this will translate in real-life, we can only hope HP will go beyond Windows Mobile to embrace other mobile platforms.

Android instantly comes to mind — and we hope to see what HP can do with it on its netbooks — but it’s also worth noting that the computer maker is a Symbian Foundation member. Maybe they just wanted to bring support for their printers to the platform, but you never know. We’ll certainly watch closely and keep you guys and gals well informed…

HP Introduces Friendlee - Location-Aware Social Networking for BlackBerry

blackberry friendlee 1024x768 HP Introduces Friendlee Location Aware Social Networking for BlackBerry

HP had already made two official announcements at WES (CloudPrint and Operations Manager), but they also offered a sneak peek of what they’re working on next at yesterday’s keynote. Details were slim, but the long and short of their new app, Friendlee for BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM), is that it lets you get in touch with your closest contacts, know what their status is, and where they are.

By detecting who you interact with most frequently, Friendlee automatically populates your friends list. Simple twitter-style status messages means you can keep up on specifics; some of the examples they have here include “who do I call to fix the printer”, and “did you get the memo” shows HP is clearly gearing this towards enterprise. Profile awareness will also let you know what mode your contacts’ BlackBerry is in - no more taking it personally when they don’t answer your call, since you can see they just have it set to Silent. Knowing your contacts’ local time is also huge for international corporations who need to plan their correspondences carefully across time zones.

Friendlee also sports a kind of LinkedIn style of connections; you can browse through select contacts of your close contacts, enabling otherwise awkward second-degree links, and also a business reccomendation engine. You might remember your friend mentioning a great pizza place around the block, and by perusing his Friendlee profile, you could get further information on it.

It doesn’t look too far along, since they didn’t do much other than copy and paste an Android screenshot onto a Storm, but they were confident enough to show it at the biggest BlackBerry show of the year, so I’m sure it’s on the way. In the long run, HP is trying to reimagine the address book so instead of chewing through a list of rarely-used contacts, you’ll be focusing on the few people you talk to on a daily basis. Take a look at HP’s research on the app for a closer look.

It’s Business Time: Rogers Launches HP iPAQ 910 ‘Business Manager’

hp910 Its Business Time: Rogers Launches HP iPAQ 910 Business ManagerRogers (NYSE: RCI) has launched the HP iPAQ 910 ‘Business Manager’ for a limited time promo price of $249.99 on a 3-year contract. The contract requires a voice/data plan over $45 per month to qualify. Not a huge fan of the iPAQ, but if you are and plan on picking one up, there are 3 other price plans available:

  • Device only: $499.99
  • 1-Year Price with Voice and Data: $449.99
  • 2-Year Price with Voice and Data: $399.99

The ‘Business Manager’ comes in black (’Piano’ black actually :P ) and has a full QWERTY keyboard, 2.4″ QVGA hi-res touchscreen @320×240, a stylus (ooooh, a stylus!), a 3MP camera with auto-focus digital zoom and video, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2.5mm headset jack and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. Whew… that was a mouthful.

Clearly according to Rogers ant the HP iPAQ 910… It’s ‘Business Time’. Check out my favorite ‘Business Time’ video after the jump, or check out the HP iPAQ 910 at Rogers.

HP iPAQ Data Messenger available for pre-order; Anyone cares?

HP iPAQ Data Messenger

Even though we expected to see HP rolling out its iPAQ Data Messenger alongside the Voice Messenger back in December, guess something went wrong for the company. Whatever the reasoning behind the delay is, it’s good to see that the better of the two devices, iPAQ Data Messenger is now available for pre-ordering in UK. 419 GBP (about $593) buys you the great-lookin’ Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone all in its QWERTY glory. The only problem is that Mobile World Congress starts within two weeks, leaving too little space for HP to get some traction.

Anyway, here’s a link where you can get all the details and eventually push the button. No, we don’t suggest doing so. Patience is a virtue, remember. ;)

Hewlett-Packard Releases HP iPrint Photo in the App Store

By James Falconer on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008 at 12:06 PM PST
In Applications, HP, iPhone

The folks at Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) have released a brand-new iPhone app called HP iPrint Photo. I have to say, I’m not surprised at all to see this new offering from HP, especially after the launch of The KODAK Gallery App last week. Perhaps HP was trying to beat KODAK to the punch and they were delayed… who knows… With that said, this app is all about printing, whereas the KODAK app offered online image gallery storage, printing and more all at a location outside of the home.

Using the new HP iPrint Photo, you can do all of your 4×6 printing right from home using an HP printer. Simply connect to your WiFi network and print all the 4×6 photos you can handle direct from your iPhone or iPod Touch (You might want to stock up on more ink).

This one is handy if you’ve ever wanted a solution to printing those shots taken with your iPhone. I have never personally encountered that situation, but if the built-in camera on the iPhone ever gets boosted up to be more of a powerhouse, I could see this app being very useful!

HP Mini 1000 netbook goes 3G, too

hpmini10003g HP Mini 1000 netbook goes 3G, too

Two weeks ago we posted that Dell has added a 3G option for its Inspiron Mini 9 netbook. Now we have HP following the suit by allowing the same add-on for its recently unveiled Mini 1000. The only problem though is the price, which at $199 is kinda steep considering that the whole netbook costs $399.

The good news is that you’ll have an option to go either Verizon (NYSE: VZ) or AT&T (NYSE: T) route — select EV-DO or HSDPA modem — which ever suits you best.

Naturally, once you select the modem you want, you need to sign a contract with a carrier to use their network, but that’s whole another story…

HP unveils iPAQ Data Messenger and iPAQ Voice Messenger

hp ipaq data messenger and voice messenger HP unveils iPAQ Data Messenger and iPAQ Voice Messenger

HP unveiled two new smartphones - HP iPAQ Data Messenger and HP iPAQ Voice Messenger, with one of them sporting a touchscreen and the other one a ROKR-style QWERTY keyboard. Let’s go briefly through each of the devices announced.

First comes the HP iPAQ Data Messenger, which prides itself with a 2.8-inch touchscreen which unfortunately doesn’t go beyond QVGA (320×240 pixels). However, there’s a slide-out QWERTY keyboard on board, making the Data Messenger look like a TyTN II competitor.

The other device, HP iPAQ Voice Messenger, comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA non-touchscreen, and the mentioned QWERTY keyboard which is fitted into an alphanumeric keypad — that’s two characters per key on its 20-key alphanumeric keypad.

In addition, both devices also come with HSDPA support, WiFi, GPS receiver, 3 megapixel camera with LED flash, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR and a microSD memory slot. Windows Mobile 6.1 is running the show.

The HP iPAQ Voice Messenger will be available by mid-November for about $570, while the HP iPAQ Data Messenger will come on the end of November for about $680.

HP To Release Touchscreen Smartphone Before End of 2008

Is it time for the 'HP Oak'?

Is it time for the 'HP Oak'?

Reports have it that Hewlett Packard is working on a new smartphone for release before the end of the year. The new touchscreen smartphone initially dubbed the ‘HP Oak’ will be initially sold in Europe by carriers in their retail stores. Initial reports on this new device came out earlier this year… But it sounds like HP has finished their development and is getting ready to ship the device.

From the Wall Street Journal:

The new device will have a touchscreen and keypad and will use Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Corp.’s Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, say people briefed on the plan. It will be able to send and receive emails, and access the Internet.

The phone is the latest version of H-P’s iPaq devices. H-P, which has been selling iPaq-branded devices since it acquired personal-computer maker Compaq Computer Corp. in 2002, primarily focused earlier iPaqs on businesses and typically didn’t sell them through retail stores.

This is an interesting move, as PC manufacturers seem to be hopping on the smartphone train of late. Look for Dell and Acer to enter the market as well, possibly as early as Q1 2009.
