HP iPAQ 900 starts shipping on June 30

Posted by Dusan on Wednesday, June 11th, 2008 at 3:42 am under HP, Windows Mobile, Devices, Announcements

HP iPAQ 900HP announced that its BlackBerry-killin' iPAQ 900 Series Business Messenger — which we've already seen on FCC's pages — will start shipping on June 30th. The all-in-one device has virtually everything a business man or woman could ever need — including the full QWERTY keyboard, tri-band UMTS/HSDPA and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, built-in GPS receiver, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 3 megapixel camera. Windows Mobile 6.1 is running the show.

HP haven't disclosed which CPU the iPAQ 900 uses, nor how much memory (RAM/ROM) it sports. We can only hope they know what's good for us — i.e. at least 128MB RAM for handling multiple apps at the same time on Windows Mobile is a must.

As for the pricing, all we know the iPAQ 900's price will "vary by country and region."

Posted by Will on Friday, April 18th, 2008 at 6:01 pm under FCC, HP, Windows Mobile, Devices

HP iPAQ 900 910 914 on FCC with Windows Mobile 6.0We've been waiting and waiting for HP to finally get real with their iPAQ 900-series Windows Mobile smartphone. Just as we were about to give up on HP's smartphone offering, the HP iPAQ 900 pops up on the FCC's website.

We were expecting the HP iPAQ 910 to get its launch on with AT&T back in September - after getting word on the juicy hardware details of the HP iPAQ 914. With a 2.5 inch 240×320 touchscreen, 3 megapixel camera, A-GPS, WiFi b/g, Google Maps, and all that delicious 850/1900Mhz HSDPA love from AT&T's 3G network, it's going to be hard to wait for the official carrier-launch of the Windows Mobile 6.0-powered HP iPAQ 910.

The FCC is keeping mum on the subject of carrier availability and pricing, so we're just going to have to hope to HP feels like dropping a couple crumbs of info our way in the near future. Although, with the FCC's blessing, the future is looking good for the HP iPAQ 900/910/914.

HP iPAQ 210 Windows Mobile 6.0 availableIt's been a long-time coming, but the sleek HP iPAQ 210 Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional handset has finally hit the market. This WinMo jobby from HP has seen delays that would make Microsoft cry, so it's good to see that it's available.

With a glorious 4-inch 480 x 640 touchscreen display, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, WiFi b/g, SDIO and CD card slots, and 128MB RAM / 256MB ROM - all powered by a Marvell PXA310 624MHz CPU - the HP iPAQ 210 definitely isn't a slouch in the performance department. Dare we say that it was worth the wait?

And at a $449 price-point, the HP iPAQ 210 is a fairly good deal. Especially with that 4-inch touchscreen. Grab yours here.

HP Bluetooth headsets hit the FCC

HP Bluetooth headsets hit the FCC

Aside from making Windows Mobile smartphones, it seems HP also wants a piece of the headset business pie. That being said, we've just spotted their noise-cancelling Bluetooth headphones at the FCC's website. As far as I know, neither Stefan nor Will spotted these at the CES, so it's something they'll be rolling out in the coming months. Mobile World Congress may be the place to see them in person for the first time. They look interesting and we'll keep our eyes widely open. Stay tuned…

Microsoft launches System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 - pushing mobile enterprise mobile to the edge

Posted by Will on Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007 at 2:31 pm under LG, HTC, Palm, Cingular/AT&T, HP, Sprint, Samsung, Technologies, Applications, Motorola, Services, Windows Mobile, i-mate, Announcements

Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manger

So, we're here at CTIA San Francisco 2007 and the first thing on our agenda was the Microsoft launch luncheon (try saying that three times, fast). Here's what they've got planned…

In keeping with the Microsoft's expertise in enterprise mobile solutions, Microsoft has launched their first "dedicated mobile device management server" - Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008. And, to help roll-out device compatibility with the Mobile Device Manager, Microsoft has teamed up with AT&T and Sprint to bring

Microsoft has keyed in on the business customer's needs beyond the realm of simple email, contact management, and calendar sync-ing. They're leveraging the Windows Mobile platform to bring a new level of integration and user-level management to the enterprise IT professional. With features like over-the-air application delivery and secure VPN connectivity, the Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 aims to ensure that fleet-management of Windows Mobile devices maintains "end-to-end data integrity" as well as providing secure access to corporate data - in other words, Windows Mobile device fleets can all be updated and synchronized with ease and allow user-corporate VPN connection under the watchful eye of the Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Center 2008.

IT heads will be happy to hear that the new Mobile Device Center will employ an "always on" connection - affording them the control they need to maintain and ensure fleet integrity. Should the "always on" connection drop-out, Microsoft's "fast reconnect" technology gets the user securely back online without having to re-authenticate. And, if the IT department sees a problem with any device in their fleet, System Center Mobile Device Manager provides the IT Administrator with the power to lock down a specific handset - they can disable Bluetooth, SMS/MMS, WLAN (WiFi), InfraRed, POP/IMAP email, and camera functionality.

AT&T and Sprint have signed on to make their lineup of Windows Mobile devices compatible with Mobile Device Manager starting early next year. New devices with Mobile Device Manager support are expected to be available in 2Q 2008 from HP, HTC, i-mate, Intermec, Motorola, Palm Inc. and Samsung - with service partner Avanade, CSC, EDS, Getronics, HP and TCS supporting Mobile Device Manager.

Microsoft seems to be taking aim squarely at RIM's BlackBerry Enterprise services. With the level of device integration and control that System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 brings, RIM had better step up it's game if it wants to hold onto its position as a powerhouse in the mobile enterprise game. And, with RIM's servers taking nose dives every so often, Windows Mobile should be looking even more attractive to corporate IT departments everywhere.

10 minutes of Windows Mobile goodness. I welcome HP back into the smartphone market. I used to have an iPaq with a PCMCIA sleeve that had a 802.11b WiFi card inside. Beat that!

HP iPAQ 910 on AT&T's 3G network?

Posted by Will on Wednesday, September 19th, 2007 at 12:54 pm under HP, Cingular/AT&T, Windows Mobile, Devices, Announcements

Wouldn't that be nice. Well, it seems AT&T's higher-ups thought so too. According to HP's website (Warning: PDF link), it looks like the new HP iPAQ 910c (HP iPAQ 914c) is headed to AT&T's network.

We're expecting HP's renewed effort into smartphones to bring the 2.5 inch 240×320 touchscreen, 3 megapixel camera, A-GPS, WiFi b/g, Google Maps, and all that delicious 850/1900Mhz HSDPA love to AT&T's 3G network. Oh, and let's not forget that all those guts will be powered by the Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional OS.

AT&T's going to have all their bases covered when it gets around to releasing all those WinMo6 devices in the coming weeks. Whatever your preference, AT&T has your form-factor and price-point covered.

HP iPAQ lineup gets better, clearer pics/specs

Posted by Will on Wednesday, September 5th, 2007 at 4:31 pm under HP, Windows Mobile, Devices, Announcements

HP iPAQ 914 Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional Smartphone spearhead HP

It looks like HP is really getting back into the smartphone game in a big way. The HP iPAQ lineup of Windows Mobile 6.0-powered handsets and handhelds are looking pretty good. HP will be launching the HP iPAQ 114, 214, and 314 as a low-end PDA, high-end PDA, and navigation unit, respectively. But, what really interests us are the two WinMo6.0 smartphones - the HP iPAQ 614 and iPAQ 914. We now have some high-quality pics of the smartphone duo to supplement those hazy crap-shots that were floating around earlier.

The HP iPAQ 914 (pictured above) will be pulling duty as the flagship of HP's reinvigorated handset business - 2.5 inch 240×320 touchscreen, 3 megapixel camera, A-GPS, WiFi b/g, 7.2Mbps HSDPA and Google Maps. Oh, and that spiffy, new Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional OS. Talk about a feature-packed smartphone! This little sucker will set you back about $800 USD.

The HP iPAQ 614 (pictured below) is considered the lesser of the two smartphones, but with integrated GPS, Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional, touchscreen, and 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, we don't exactly think this thing is any less of a competent smartphone than the HP iPAQ 914. Especially since it costs the same - $800 USD.

Pricing or availability is not yet known.

Welcome back to the smartphone biz, HP. We're liking your new offerings and we're sure they'll do fairly well. Although, with price tags that are just a stone's throw from a Grand, you'll be facing some tough criticism.
