WindowsMobile ATTMap AT&T Windows Mobile Lineup Leaked, Featuring LG Monaco, HP ObsidianYou might recall seeing the pico-projecting LG Monaco popping up on an extensive AT&T roadmap back in the Spring, featuring a landscape QWERTY keypad, a 5 megapixel camera and a 3.2″ WVGA touchscreen. Well, a leaked roadmap has revealed a more precise release date (November), along with a few other Windows Mobile smartphones coming to AT&T (NYSE: T). HP’s iPAQ K3 Obsidian, first seen live in July, will be launching shortly after the Monoco in December with a modest 2.8″ QVGA, 3.2 megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, and 528 Mhz processor. The HTC Fortress (a.k.a. Touch Pro2, Tilt 2) gets added confirmation to what we’ve already seen regarding a mid-October launch, and both the Samsung Jack and Epix will be due for a 6.5 update after the Tilt 2 is out. Good news all around for Windows Mobile fans!

photosmart printer iphone integration HP Launches New Range of Photosmart Printers Featuring Improved Support for iPhone and iPod Touch

HP has just launched a new range in the Photosmart printer line, which feature improved wireless support for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The new printers include the HP Photosmart C4680, HP Photosmart, HP Photosmart with Wireless, HP Photosmart Plus and HP Photosmart Premium.

HP notes that the new series has ‘transformed the printer from a functional device to a fun and creative platform that the whole family can engage with’. Thanks for the fuzzy feel-good message HP :)

Tight integration for iPhone and iPod Touch users can be achieved by downloading the HP iPrint Photo app. With it, you can use the new Photosmart range to print out 4×6 photos stored on your device. Pop open the app, browse your photo albums and pictures, select a picture and hit the ‘print’ option. That’s it. Easy.

The new Photosmart Printers should be available come October. In the meantime you can still use existing HP printer technology together with the HP iPrint Photo app to print out hundreds of pictures in 4×6 brilliance.

Note: You can check out the HP iPrint Photo app in the App Store (iTunes link). No worries, it’s a free download.

HP’s iPAQ K3 Obsidian clears FCC on its way to AT&T

HP iPAQ K3 Obsidian clears FCC on its way to AT&T

HP’s full QWERTY keyboard-equipped Windows Mobile smartphone, iPAQ K3 Obsidian, has been spotted while passing the FCC on its way to AT&T (NYSE: T). Why we think it’s heading there? Well, there are a couple of reasons:

  • Its 3G radio sings on 850 and 1900MHz bands, AT&T uses;
  • We’ve seen it in AT&T’s leaked roadmap;
  • Finally, it has “AT&T SKU” written on its ID label.

Need more proof? No you don’t. If our earlier sources were correct, we’ll see AT&T start selling this baby on November 30th. Pricing is unknown at the moment, though.

New HP device coming with QWERTY keyboard and AMOLED display?

hp ipaq k3 obsidian oled info New HP device coming with QWERTY keyboard and AMOLED display?According to OLED-info.com, there are rumors that HP has an upcoming smartphone, called the iPAQ K3 Obsidian. Reportedly it will have a 2.46-inch Touch-AMOLED display, with QVGA 320×240 resolution. Other specs include a 3.2Mp camera, 528Mhz CPU, 256Mb RAM, microSD slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, microUSB and GPS.

Sounds OK doesn’t it? There’s nothing outstanding with those specs, but as previous devices have taught us, sometimes the end result can sometimes be greater than the sum of all the parts….

Thanks for the heads-up Ron!

hp k3 5 First Look at iPAQ K3 Obsidian

Some solid pictures of the first iPAQ in a long time have surfaced, and it looks like it’s packing Windows Mobile 6.5. The K3, code-named “Obsidian” isn’t anything especially impressive, but it sure is stylish.

Based on what we had heard before, the K3 should be packing tri-band HSDPA, quad-band GSM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, aGPS, 2.8? QVGA touchscreen, 2 megapixel camera with LED flash (although these pictures show a 3.2 megapixel camera with no flash), and 256 MB RAM. What we’ve learned from this first look is that it will be running on a 7200a Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) processor, clocking in at 528 Mhz, and support microSD and 3.5mm inputs.

Considering we’re seeing a live working unit now, the previously speculated November 30 seems pretty far – it wouldn’t be surprising to see the K3 actually land sometime this fall.

AT&T Lineup Leaked: 3G BlackBerry Pearl, Palm Eos and Android-Bearing Lancaster Confirmed

By Simon Sage on Monday, May 25th, 2009 at 7:02 AM PST
In AT&T, Android, BlackBerry, HP, HTC, New Hardware, Palm, Web OS, Windows Mobile

A slideshow outlining AT&T (NYSE: T)’s entire lineup of upcoming handsets has snuck out and is showing some very impressive hardware, notably the BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Onyx we’ve been seeing so much of lately, but also a few surprises from HTC. HP’s even got a new iPAQ coming. Gasp! Here’s what’s coming:

Palm Eos – Palm (NSDQ: PALM)’s next WebOS handset, packing a traditional full-QWERTY layout. Due second half.

BlackBerry Onyx – The keypad in the slide looks distinctly different from what we’ve seen earlier today. Also, the image stablization feature for the camera sounds new. No model number set, no release date given.

BlackBerry Gemini – First BlackBerry to use a touchpad instead of trackball. “Potential” GPS option. No model number set, no release date given.

BlackBerry Pearl 3G – Pictured as a classic candybar, now with 3G for GSM carriers. First we’ve heard of it, and long overdue, considering EV-DO capable Pearls have been around for awhile. The Pearl 3G will have tri-band UIMTS, HSDPA clocking in at 3.6 Mbps, aGPS, “high-resolution” screen, camera, Bluetooth, SureType, microUSB. No model number set, no release date given.

BlackBerry Magnum – “BlackBerry Bold porfolio evolution”, full QWERTY keypad plus touch. Same processor as Bold, tri-band UMTS, quad-band GSM, HVGA screen, more memory. No model number set, no release date given.

HTC Fortress – AT&T’s Touch Pro2 running Windows Mobile 6.1, hinting at Windows Mobile 7 for September. Full slide-out QWERTY keypad with 3.6″ WVGA 480 x 800 touchscreen. Due May 25.

HTC Warhawk – AT&T’s Touch Diamond 2 running Windows Mobile 6.5. 3.2″ WVGA 480 x 800 touchscreen with TouchFlo 3D UI.  Due August 24th.

HTC Lancaster – New Android handset with side-sliding QWERTY keyboard (otherwise looks similar to the Magic). 2.8″ QVGA 240 x 320 touchscreen. Dual-band HSDPA, tri-band GSM, aGPS, Bluetooth. “Unique HTC Social Messaging User Interface” sounds promising. Due August 3rd, but could see delays due to UI customization.

iPAQ K3 – Full QWERTY handset codenamed Obsidian to launch with Windows Mobile 6.5. Tri-band HSDPA, quad-band GSM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, aGPS, 2.8″ QVGA touchscreen (no stylus), 2 megapixel camera with LED flash, 256 MB RAM. Proximity and light sensor also built-in. Due November 30.

All of that on top of the four Nokia devices and two Motorolas that leaked earlier. Hooah! Thems a lotta phones.

Verizon Wireless to launch HP Mini 1151NR netbook on May 17th?

Verizon Wireless to launch HP Mini 1151NR netbook

It seems Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Wireless is gearing toward launching not one but two cool products on May 17th. We’ve already mentioned the portable 3G hotspot device MiFi 2200, and now we’re hearing the carrier will also unveil the HP Mini 1151NR netbook with integrated EV-DO radio.

The bad news is the rumored price. Apparently, Verizon will ask $199 for the netbook on a two-year contract. Bare in mind that this contract involves monthly cost of at least $40, which makes the total cost of ownership of the HP Mini astronomical. This seems like a deal designed for those who already thought about buying a netbook, but needed a reason more to push the button. Well, now you got it, though it would make more sense if Verizon could offer HP’s baby for hundred bucks. That would make the deal much sweeter…

Former Palm director joins HP to revive the smartphone business?

By Dusan Belic on Monday, May 11th, 2009 at 1:24 AM PST
In HP, Rumors

HP iPAQ Data MessengerFormer Palm (NSDQ: PALM) senior director Jonathan Oakes’ LinkedIn profile shows that he’s now an HP employee. As a matter of fact he jumped to HP’s Emerging Businesses Unit, which deals with iPAQ smartphones and general mobile business and custom PC software.

Expectantly HP declined to comment why they need Jonathan, but the rumor says he’ll help the company revive its smartphone business. And while we’ve no clue how this will translate in real-life, we can only hope HP will go beyond Windows Mobile to embrace other mobile platforms.

Android instantly comes to mind — and we hope to see what HP can do with it on its netbooks — but it’s also worth noting that the computer maker is a Symbian Foundation member. Maybe they just wanted to bring support for their printers to the platform, but you never know. We’ll certainly watch closely and keep you guys and gals well informed…

HP Introduces Friendlee – Location-Aware Social Networking for BlackBerry

By Simon Sage on Thursday, May 7th, 2009 at 6:44 AM PST

blackberry friendlee 1024x768 HP Introduces Friendlee Location Aware Social Networking for BlackBerry

HP had already made two official announcements at WES (CloudPrint and Operations Manager), but they also offered a sneak peek of what they’re working on next at yesterday’s keynote. Details were slim, but the long and short of their new app, Friendlee for BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM), is that it lets you get in touch with your closest contacts, know what their status is, and where they are.

By detecting who you interact with most frequently, Friendlee automatically populates your friends list. Simple twitter-style status messages means you can keep up on specifics; some of the examples they have here include “who do I call to fix the printer”, and “did you get the memo” shows HP is clearly gearing this towards enterprise. Profile awareness will also let you know what mode your contacts’ BlackBerry is in – no more taking it personally when they don’t answer your call, since you can see they just have it set to Silent. Knowing your contacts’ local time is also huge for international corporations who need to plan their correspondences carefully across time zones.

Friendlee also sports a kind of LinkedIn style of connections; you can browse through select contacts of your close contacts, enabling otherwise awkward second-degree links, and also a business reccomendation engine. You might remember your friend mentioning a great pizza place around the block, and by perusing his Friendlee profile, you could get further information on it.

It doesn’t look too far along, since they didn’t do much other than copy and paste an Android screenshot onto a Storm, but they were confident enough to show it at the biggest BlackBerry show of the year, so I’m sure it’s on the way. In the long run, HP is trying to reimagine the address book so instead of chewing through a list of rarely-used contacts, you’ll be focusing on the few people you talk to on a daily basis. Take a look at HP’s research on the app for a closer look.
