AT&T sure is busy keeping up with all the hype that Apple is generating for the iPhone. In fact, according to Dow Jones Newswires, AT&T stores across the country will be prepping for the June 29, 2007 launch at 6pm by hiring an additional 2,000 employees. Think of this as an Apple iPhone “surge”, of sorts. Except this “surge” will consist of paid (not volunteer) workers and will be fighting to maintain peace and order on the battlefields of AT&T sales floors come launch day. The extra employees are mostly college students taken on for the summer season, according to AT&T spokeman Michael Coe.
Although neither Apple nor AT&T has released official stock estimates, Coe says that, should the stores sell out (we’re 100% expecting that), eager iPhone-hopefuls will be able to order the iPhone at the store for immediate delivery to their house when available.

We’re pretty sure this “surge” strategy will work out a wee-bit better than that other “surge” strategy from the White House.
