The LG Voyager has been Verizon Wireless’s touchscreen-toting answer to the iPhone. With 1.1 million units shipped since its launch, LG has done well for itself with the lateral (side) flipping handset. The LG Voyager VX10000 launched on Verizon’s No. 2 network as an exclusive, but word has it that the Voyager could be making its way to Sprint and AT&T’s network.
The Electronic Times quotes an LG official as saying, “We plan to expand the supply of Voyager to AT&T and Sprint within this year. That will lay the strong foundation for LG in the North American market.”
It makes sense to expand on the Voyager’s success by launching the handset on other carriers’ networks. But, it’s interesting that the Verizon iPhone-fighter would be making it’s way to the same network that has maintained – and will probably maintain for the foreseeable future – exclusivity on the iPhone.
We’ll keep an eye out for any rumblings about the LG Voyager hitting Sprint and AT&T. Stay tuned…
[Update]
And LG spokesperson contacted me this morn to let me know that the rumors about the LG Voyager VX10000 headed to other carriers are just that, rumors. LG is looking into where this rumor leaked (some heads may roll) from and assures me that the LG Voyager is not going to show up on Sprint or AT&T. Too bad, it would have been fun to see how the Voyager fared against the iPhone and the upcoming Sprint Samsung Instinct.
