Interesting one, this one – the “Daily Mail” (which is a popular newspaper in the UK) has a story online regarding Mobile TV – the main thrust of the article doesn’t concern DVB-H, Nokia devices, or 3’s successes in Italy, but rather the upcoming inclusion of Freeview tuners in to Mobile devices.
It’s interesting to me because my practical and industry experience tells me that DVB-T (Freeview) works none too well on Mobile devices – in fact, Freeview reception in-home requires a meaty aerial, and a decent decoder.
However, the central premise is reasonable – and the article mentions the inclusion of these Freeview digital tuners in to “Takara DVD Players” and “Sony PlayStation Consoles“.
That in itself brings me to another interesting topic – I’m not sure live broadcast TV reception is suited to a console like the Sony PSP. I was trawling the Interweb the other day and came back across the Go! View offering from Sony and Sky, in the UK. This is a VoD service, where you can download shows to watch from those broadcasters that Sky has a deal with (note: that is LOTS!), and then view at your pleasure.
I’m thinking this has got to be worth a try – but have any IntoMobile readers tried this? If so, care to share your experiences? Then do so via our wonderful comments system!
