Hmmm – following on from my last post about placement of mobile devices in videos, I was expecting a ton of them to pop up in Beyonce’s latest music video – given the song is called Videophone…
Well you’ll be disappointed – there’s no product placement of any mobile devices, in fact, it’s got some potentially questionable content (at least that’s what the UK press/members of parliament think…).
The issue at hand seems to be that there are numerous ‘scenes’ in the video with Beyonce in very in little clothing, waving a toy gun about. And these are blatant toy guns mind you, since they are primary colours – but the assertion is that it glamorizes violence towards women, and gun crime. Personally, I can’t quite see that – my only take on things is that the video isn’t as good as the ‘Single Ladies’ or ‘Sweet Dreams’ videos, both of which were groundbreaking, in their own little ways.
At any rate, it’s disappointing there are no mobile devices for us to spot in this particular video! Frankly, you’d be better off playing ‘spot & name the mobile’ in The Game’s video ‘Camera phone’ – there are at least four different ones in there!
