Read an interesting article by Jason Kincaid over at TechCrunch this evening. I found it of particular interest because of the subject matter: Adult apps in the Apple App Store *chicka-bow-wow*. This has always been a contentious subject, with vehement arguments heard ’round the web on either side of the issue.
Word has it that developer Jon Atherton, creator of the much ogled ‘Wobble iBoobs‘ app has just been sacked from the App Store by the iPhone App Review team. Sure enough, after popping open my iTunes and running a few searches, the app is nowhere to be found. But why the sudden shaft? Apparently a policy change at Apple was the final stroke. Read the email Jon received for yourself:
The App Store continues to evolve, and as such, we are constantly refining our guidelines. Your application, Wobble iBoobs (Premium Uncensored), contains content that we had originally believed to be suitable for distribution. However, we have recently received numerous complaints from our customers about this type of content, and have changed our guidelines appropriately.
We have decided to remove any overtly sexual content from the App Store, which includes your application.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter. If you believe you can make the necessary changes so that Wobble iBoobs (Premium Uncensored) complies with our recent changes, we encourage you to do so and resubmit for review.

Of course, this is early days on the matter, so it’ll be more than interesting to see if other ‘overtly’ sexual apps get the rub-and-tug. If any ‘adult’ developers have any insight or comments on this, feel free to reach out to me. Apple, if you’re reading, I’d like to hear your take on this too.
