Today Samsung and U.S. Cellular announced a new device for the carrier, the Freeform. A sleek, candy-bar shaped, texting machine that’s quite easy on the eyes.
The slim design makes it very pocketable, while still maintaining a decent sized full QWERTY keyboard. The specs of the device are dismal, but it shouldn’t be an issue, as the device is mainly for messaging. While I’ve always been partial to a row of numbers atop of a keyboard, this one makes do without one just fine. The keys have some good space in between each other making the heaviest of texters happy.
The Freeform keeps it minimal, and to the point which is what makes the device so attractive. It packs a 2.2″ display,1.3 MP camera, stereo bluetooth, threaded text messaging, music player, and has expandable memory up to 16GB. With dedicated speakerphone, text messaging, and calendar buttons, shortcuts are a breeze. Oh, and it also has a shortcut bar along the bottom of the display, if for some reason you get lost.
Also packaged with the Freeform is U.S. Cellular’s “easyedge”, enabling it to download ringtones, wallpapers, games, etc. For the audience they are going for, the few available extras should go a long way. With talk time of six hours, and standby of 300 hours, it’s more than ok to miss a nightly charge.
Pricing and launch date are currently unknown, but we’ll keep you updated on this texting beast.
