Samsung tops U.S. market, consumer survey

Samsung is on top of the world this morning because it had the most market share in the United States for 2009 and Brand Keys said the company topped its customer loyalty survey for wireless handsets.

While the iPhone, BlackBerry and Android smartphones take up a lot of the conversation, Samsung is the world’s second-biggest handset maker because of its large portfolio of low-end and feature phones. They do make some solid devices, and the study found customers really liked their Samsung cell phones.

“The combination of brand loyalty and market share leadership are two excellent proof points that Samsung is surpassing our customer’s expectations as a quality brand and building strong advocates for our mobile phones,” said Dale Sohn, president of Samsung America, in a prepared statement. “Our ability to meet many different consumer needs at various price points signals the likelihood that Samsung will build on this success for many more years to come.”

Let’s not go too crazy though, as that same consumer survey said Apple was the best in the smartphone space. Samsung was second in that category, although I’ve found devices like the Omnia II and Beyond II to be rather unimaginative. If you have time, dig through the rest of Brand Keys’ awards because there’s some interesting stuff. For example, Google and Bing tied for top search engine, AT&T topped the wireless carrier category and Grey Goose was the top vodka.
