Android-Powered Samsung Acclaim Coming to U.S. Cellular July

U.S. Cellular is gearing up to launch the HTC Desire, but they’ve got a slightly lower-end Android handsets from Samsung on the way, called the Acclaim (R880). According to a U.S. Cellular Facebook posting, the Acclaim will pack a 3.2″ HVGA display, full QWERTY keyboard, and Android 2.1, while the Bluetooth SIG tells us it’ll also have a 3 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.  It’ll be launching sometime in July, presumably around the same time as the Desire.

Samsung is planning to use Android for at least half of its phones, and have already demonstrated what they’ve been able to do with the platform with the Galaxy, Galaxy Spica, Galaxy S, the Moment, and plenty of others. By contrast, U.S. Cellular is still getting its feet wet with Android, but the coordinated launch of the Acclaim and Desire shows they’re pretty keen to get started. We still aren’t sure what the Acclaim actually looks like, but odds are we’ll see something in the next two months before launch.
