The iPad could be an awesome remote

There are many bad things that can be said about Comcast/Xfinity but I’ve been quietly impressed with its efforts to move to mobile devices. I found its iPhone app to be a solid appetizer but this prototype iPad remote control app looks absolutely delicious.

You’ll be able to use the program to pair up your iPad with your cable box over WiFi and then you’ll have complete control on that big, lovely screen. Along with channel guides, you’ll be able to search for content and there’s even a rudimentary form of social-networking integration as you’ll be able to invite other users to view what you’re watching. I’d imagine you’ll also be able to record your DVR, too.

It’s still in prototype phase but I’d expect it to roll out over the next couple months. We’ll be sure to give you our thoughts on it when it’s out in the wild.
