
Telmap announced that its iPhone application(s) has/have exceeded 200,000 downloads.
As you may know, Telmap provides white label managed mobile search, mapping and navigation solutions to mobile operators offering them among other things, carrier-branded iPhone apps which has been launched with 9 operators in key EMEA markets, APAC and the US. Among Telmap’s clients we find such companies as Vodafone (Vodafone UK Navigation), Singapore’s SingTel (SingTel Xplorer) and Orange (Orange Maps in France and the UK).
According to the official press release, the 200,000 downloads mark presents a great achievement and serves as “end users’ vote of confidence and clear preference for applications provided and supported by the familiar and trusted operator.”
I’m not so sure about that “confidence part.” If there were not price incentives, I’m sure most folks would grab TomTom or Garmin instead of a carrier-branded app. The “problem” (if that’s a problem at all), is that Telmap-powered solutions are usually more affordable and in some cases (like with Orange) come pre-loaded with the iPhone…
