A week ago today, we were expecting Verizon to push the Android 2.2 Froyo update to the HTC Droid Incredible via an over-the-air (OTA) update. Sadly, that day came and went without any sign of Froyo, and instead just got a confirmation that it would not be coming. So let’s try it again, shall we? According to the latest rumor, the Droid Incredible may be getting its Froyo on in just one week!
Sure, we’ll believe it when we see it, but this time around, we’re well into the launch window that was initially expected for the Android 2.2 update to be made available for the Incredible. Does this mean that it will happen? Not necessarily, but it’s more likely to happen on Sept. 1 than ever before. While we don’t like to spread rumors (we love it), September 1st sounds like a nice date to unleash the newest update to one of the markets’ hottest Android phones. Will it put a damper on Apple’s announcement also on the 1st? Likely not.
Sure, you can grab the leaked Froyo ROM for the Droid Incredible now, but there’s nothing like seeing a notification on your phone, letting you know that an update is awaiting you. Supposedly, Verizon’s marketing team has been told about the impending update, and we will likely see a surge in Droid Incredible TV ads in its wake. Hey, if we’re lucky, we may see the Froyo update for the Droid X as well. Then again, we’ve got till September 22nd before summer officially ends, and I’d imagine the Incredible will get first dibs on Froyo. The Incredible has been available since April 29th, so it definitely deserves some priority over a device that came out just last month.
So will Verizon push green button for the Incredible on the 1st of next month? Let’s hope so! The device may be older than many of the other Droids, but it’s still probably one of the best choices for those who don’t care about a QWERTY keyboard or a massive screen.
