An internal list of devices Verizon intends to axe has snuck out, giving us the dates when certain phones are reaching end of life. The BlackBerry Curve 8530 is being taken off the shelves September 16, the BlackBerry Storm2 9550 exits stage left on October 10, and the Palm Pre Plus hits the dusty trail October 21. Newer devices, like the BlackBerry Bold 9650, Motorola Droid X, Droid 2, Devour, HTC Droid Incredible, and LG Ally are listed for a March 2011 end of life, though that very well may be a placeholder for the immediate future.
The Pixi Plus is sticking around until next March, suggesting that rumoured new hardware from Palm will occupy the upper end, while the Pixi sticks it out as a budget smartphone. The Curve 8530 is no surprise, since the 9330 is well on its way, but the EOL date does give us an idea of when to expect the new hardware. We had heard rumours of a refreshed BlackBerry Storm with mobile hotspot capabilities, and odds are that’s exactly what the Storm2 is making room for. We’ve heard a fair bit about Verizon’s roadmap for this year, and these EOL dates are good indications that the rumours so far are true.
