No surprises here as we’ve already announced that today is the day for the Apple iPad launch in China. One thing that is a little surprising, however, are the lines and crowds for the device. Despite rain and gloomy weather, folks in Beijing are crowding the flagship Apple store in China to be one of the first in that country with a Wi-Fi model iPad.
Apple retail employees were on hand to make the wait a little more comfortable with coffee and umbrellas for the eager buyers. The wait for the iPad had been quite long according to AppleInsider:
As staff readied the store for the barrage of customers, over a hundred people lined up in front of the store, with latecomers continuing to trickle in. The customer at the front of the line had been waiting for over sixty hours.
The iPad in China sells for CNY3,988, $593 U.S., for the 16GB model and goes up from there. Additionally, not only are the Chinese able to grab iPads now afer waiting for what probably seemed like an eternity, but they can also pre-order the iPhone 4 from China Unicom.
At the time of this writing, the day is just about over in Beijing, China, and it looks like Apple’s iPad launch in the country was a success given the crowd enthusiasm and numbers.
