The upcoming T-Mobile G2 release date has been pretty elusive, as we’ve only been running on rumors at this point. Although we had reason to believe that the G2 would hit store shelves on Oct. 6, it may have been pushed back to the 16th from what we’re hearing now.
When Best Buy announced that it would be allowing preorders, the site also let the release date slip. Now if you go to the site, it just says “October“, suggesting that a delay has indeed happened. We don’t have a confirmation on the October 16th date, so it could be at any point now.
The delay of the G2 could make people possibly want to wait it out to see what this MyTouch HD (Desire HD) is all about, if it does end up coming out on November 3, as the leaked roadmap suggests.
I really want my next phone to the G2, as it fits everything I’ve been looking for in a phone. That said, the MyTouch HD with its new Snapdragon chipset may prove to be a better buy for some. Those looking for a stock Android experience and keyboard should find the G2 to their liking but don’t expect all the hardware specs that the HD will sport. Although I’m not a big fan of HTC Sense, with the G2 delayed, I could become swayed to wait just a little longer if the HD proves itself to be that much better. Right now, I’m not holding my breath.
We’ll be patiently awaiting for T-Mobile to give us some more information on the availability of the G2, but it seems like they are taking their sweet time. Hopefully we’ll hear more details soon, even if it’s the confirmation on the delay. Magenta has been pretty quiet, we wish it would continue to build hype for the successor of the world’s first Android device.
UPDATE: After calling the local Best Buy, I was told that the G2 would actually be coming out on October 10th, and not the 16th. While the date could change yet again, this is more than what we had before. Let’s hope this date sticks!
