If you’ve been to NotionInk.com in search of information on the company’s upcoming Android tablet recently, you wouldn’t have seen much. For longer than we care to remember, the .com website displayed little more than a simple picture, a link to the blog, and a comment option. Well, that’s all changed now as the Notion Ink team has pushed their new site live, and it’s looking pretty nice.
The Indian-facing NotionInk.in site has been up and running for quite a while now. The Indian site now looks exactly like the .com site, and this certainly means that one of the most anticipated Android tablets may soon be upon us. We’re still in the dark as to when the Adam will be released, but the company says they wold definitely like to get it out and into the hands of customers before Christmas, and if they don’t then definitely by CES 2011.
The site showcases all that is Adam, and does it in simple, slick style. One thing that caught my eye on the new site is in the Tech Specs section, where there’s mention of a “mystery bonus feature”. If you’ve been keeping up with the Adam at all, then you may already have a hint as to what this feature may be. For some time we’ve known that the Adam will sport a mouse-pad-like touch area on the back of the device (think Motorola’s Backtrack), and will allow you to navigate through the device without having to touch the screen. While it may be a nice feature to some, I’d turn it off immediately. While I’d really like to be surprised about this mystery feature, I’m still betting on the extra navigation method as this feature.
Nonetheless, things seem to be ramping up quite a bit for the Notion Ink team, and hopefully we’ll be able to see one of these bad boys in stores and in our hands in the very near future. I still worry about just how customized the Android home will be on the device, but from what we’ve seen so far, it looks pretty great.
Notion Ink is one of the first manufacturers to adopt the new Pixel Qi hybrid LCD/low-power displays, but I’d imagine they will catch on rather quickly. Currently there are only the 10.1 inch modules available, but 7 inch modules will be available the first half of 2011, but may make an appearance at CES next year. If 7 inches is really where it’s at in the tablet arena, I expect to see many more Pixel Qi tablets in the future.
For now, I’ll happily give Notion Ink my money for a 10 inch beast of a tablet, but as time goes on, it’s hard not to want to wait for these Honeycomb tablets.
