Sony Ericsson will NOT be updating its XPERIA X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro smartphones beyond Android 2.1. Android Community got this information from the Swedish-Japanese handset maker and we’re so sorry to hear that. The company did promise to deliver some updates that will for instance enable multi-touch on the Xperia X10 (at some point in Q1 2011), but that’s not enough. Do we really have to repeat this – if you don’t treat your customer properly, they’ll pick competing products on their next purchase. And since there’s plenty of choice out there, I must say I don’t understand the decision.
Despite all new phones that were launched at the CES, the Xperia X10 is still an awesome device that could easily run Android 2.3 Gingerbread. To be fair, there are unofficial ROMs out there, but that’s not the point – the point should be to keep your customers happy and have their firmwares up to date all the time. HTC does that best, though they could be faster.
Hopefully, this isn’t the final decision and posts like this (and your comments below) could help the Swedes and Japanese in the company re-think their strategy…
