Strap on your eye-patches, pirates, the uTorrent P2P client launched an Android companion app recently that lets you remotely manage your desktop downloads of questionable legality. They’ve had a mobile site for a couple of years where you could check in on your incoming files, but this is much more polished. With the Android app you can browse, add, pause, or remove downloads, and transfer, save, or play finished files from your computer to your device. You can also take care of feeds, so you’ll know when there are new episodes of your favourite shows to download.
uTorrent is actually made by the original BitTorrent guys, presumably to offer something a little more rich. I use the basic client since I don’t do a tonne of downloading (blame Rogers’ 95 GB cap for that), but if I did, I’d switch to uTorrent for the mobile managing in a heartbeat. The developers are hoping to have a full-fledged standalone client soon, which will no doubt be a nightmare for service providers.
To get started, you’ll need uTorrent installed on your computer and have an account registered, then you can grab the Android app in the Market.
