As part of efforts to reach more mobile game developers and publishers, OpenFeint launched OpenFeint Connect, a set of social gaming APIs for game developers. Still in private beta, the solution makes it possible for developers to add social elements to their games on every app store for every device, and take OpenFeint game data everywhere.
Some of you may wonder what “every device” and “everywhere” means. I’m not sure I fully understand it either. OpenFeint is already available for iOS and Android devices, and now the press release also mentions Windows Phone and webOS (Palm Pre 3). No word on Symbian or bada, though.
By using these APIs game developers will be able to integrate leaderboards and achievements, OpenFeint accounts and take advantage of OpenFeint’s social network that allows players to friend other people. In addition, with the “Developer announcements” feature gaming publishers will be able to talk directly with their players to keep them engaged and up-to-date on the latest developments.
OpenFeint is currently used by more than 65 million users and over 4,700 games making it the largest mobile social gaming network. Developers interested in applying for the OpenFeint Connect private beta should visit this page.
