When the Wright brothers invented the first airplane they probably couldn’t imagine the horrific conditions that people more than a century into the future would have to endure in order to see their family, friends, or business partners. Between screaming babies, overpriced drinks, fat people who make you wonder how in the world someone could let themselves go like that, and food that you’re not quite sure you’d classify as edible, the sole savior to those long intercontinental flights has been the recent addition of onboard WiFi. Finding those flights that have said WiFi is a bit tricky, simply because some airplanes have been upgraded to deliver you videos of cats on YouTube while others haven’t seen service from a mechanic since the days of disco. Hipmunk aims to solve that, think of them as a hipster version of Kayak, the latter being the service we at IntoMobile to book all of our flights. Starting today they’ll let you sort flights by those that provide WiFi and those that don’t. They’ll soon issue updates to their iPad and iPhone apps as well so you can book said internet enabled flights from anywhere you’ve got cellular service.
Now if you’re looking for tips to make your flight less of a pain in the ass, here’s what we learned over the years as we’ve crossed the ocean to cover events in Europe and Asia: 1) Get absolutely hammered. Seriously. There’s nothing like passing out during a flight because you just secretly downed a fifth of vodka in the men’s room that you purchased from the duty free shop. 2) Talk to people. The internet has made people afraid to communicate in real life, and that’s a shame. You may be sitting next to someone who can be your new best friend, but you’ll never know if you don’t open your mouth. 3) See tip #1.
