Samsung accidentally posted a device on their website, but the folks at Phone Scoop were fast enough to copy all the nitty gritty details before the South Korean handset vendor noticed their mistake and took down the device in question. What we’ve got below is known as the D600 Conquer 4G. It’ll pack a 3.5 inch screen with a HVGA resolution, something we haven’t seen since the iPhone 3GS, 1 GHz processor with Android 2.3 on top, 3.2 megapixel camera, and 1.3 megapixel forward facing camera. What makes this thing special is that it packs support for Clearwire’s WiMAX network, which begs the question: why release a mid range Android smartphone that can support 4G when the bottleneck to enjoying said high speed wireless will be the device itself? Seriously, if consumers are dumb enough to want anything that an operator slaps a 4G label on then we’re not that optimistic about the future of mankind.

Now of course we can’t say too many bad things about this smartphone since we don’t know much else about it. If it’s available for free on contract, then yea, it makes sense. Anything over $100 however and they’re just asking for trouble. For $50 with a 2 year contract you can get an iPhone 3GS on AT&T, which has pretty much the exact same specifications as the Conquer 4G, except that it doesn’t have 4G and a front facing camera. We don’t know when Sprint plans on making this thing official, but we’re thinking it’s a perfect back to school phone because mommy and daddy really have no idea what to buy when they’re in the store, and they’ll see the Conquer 4G and think to themselves that their son Timmy will really enjoy this flashy new smartphone, despite it actually being run of the mill.
What do you think, is the Conquer 4G something you’d be interested in buying? If so … what the hell is wrong with you?
