Our friends at BGR got a nice little scoop with some hands-on shots of what appears to Motorola’s followup to the Atrix. Will the Atrix 2 (codenamed: Edison) be able to keep up with the plethora of superphones we’re seeing on the market?
The report says that the Atrix 2 will have a dual-core processor, probably a TI OMAP one, 8-megapixel camera and Android Gingerbread 2.3.5. This is not expected to be an LTE device despite the fact that AT&T just lit up its 4G LTE network. Look for this Motorola handset to land soon, as reports suggest that it will be on the market around the holiday shopping season.
This modest update to the original Atrix seems par for the course with Motorola, as it has a tendency to introduce a cool device then slightly iterate on it each following year (see Droid, Droid X, Atrix lines). Once Google takes over, it will be interesting to see how the search giant’s vision for the hardware company plays out.
