A rumor from Japanese Nikkei newspaper suggests Softbank won’t be the only carrier to exclusively offer the iPhone for so long. Starting from next year, KDDI will join the party too, offering the latest (and greatest) version of Apple’s handset – iPhone 5.
KDDI is obviously super-interested in a deal with the Cupertino-based company, considering the success Softbank has experienced thus far. In its June quarterly earnings, Softbank’s net income jumped 500% year over year due to sales of the iPhone and iPad.
That said, I’m sure KDDI is not the only one looking to the deal with Apple with a dose of envy; I’m sure other carriers from the Land of the rising Sun are pitching Tim Cook’s folks as we speak. We’ll see which of them will find a common ground with Apple and get to offer the long awaited iPhone 5.
Needless to say, as soon as we hear something new, you’ll be the first to know. Stay tuned…
