Acer announces first Windows Phone handset Allegro

Acer today announced the release of its first Windows Phone handset, dubbed the Allegro. This mid-range device will cost customers €299 (which is about $420 in the U.S.), slightly less than the price of the Nokia Lumia 710 announced yesterday. The Allegro carries average features at best. Specs include the following:

  • Dimensions: 11.6 x 5.9 x 13mm
  • Weight: 126g
  • Display: 3.6-inch WVGA (480 x 800)
  • Processor: Qualcomm MSM8255 1 Ghz
  • Storage capacity: 8 GB, plus microSD
  • Camera: 5 megapixel with LED flash
  • Battery: 1300 mAh battery with 6 hours talk time
  • Bluetooth: 2.1 + EDR
  • Wi-Fi: b/g/n
  • Sensors: Accelerometer, proximity sensor, light sensor, A-GPS

One has to think that Acer is trying to undercut Nokia with this offering, especially considering how vastly similar these two phones look when it comes to the hardware. To get a better understanding of what I’m talking about check out our hands on with the Nokia Lumia 710 here. Although details are a bit mum, the Allegro will be available in black and white in France, and the expected release date is sometime in mid-November. There is no word on whether it will hit the states or our buddies up north in Canada in the near future.

Would you guys buy a Windows Phone from Acer for 420 bucks?
