Barnes & Noble is apparently gearing up to unveil the Nook Color 2 on November 7. The rumor is that the book store chain will release a successor to its popular tablet to compete with the brand new Amazon Kindle Fire.
Details are pretty scarce, though the source also claims the company prepares to launch in-store “Nook boutiques” equipped with LED TVs and touchscreen POS systems.
The way I see it this would be the move in right direction as more and more readers “go digital” to enjoy books. B&N has already made some success with the original Nook Color and releasing an updated version in time for the Christmas shopping season makes perfect sense. The question is whether they can compete with Amazon is another matter. The online retailer is selling the whole experience and not just an ebook reader with the Kindle Fire, and is even losing money with every unit sold. That’s tough nut to crack but then again – we’re pretty confident Barnes & Noble has the resources to pull this one out. We’ll keep watching and let you know as soon as we hear something new on this…
