Web-based Samsung Apps now allows OTA app installation

Samsung has updated its web-based app store Samsung Apps allowing users to install applications from a web browser. The so called Web Download Service already works on the Android Market and Apple’s iTunes – simply tap a link and the application management app will start to take it from there.

The new capability is available for all bada 2.0 and Android devices, though at the moment it’s limited to select countries, including the UK, South Korea, Germany, France and Italy; with more countries to be added soon. And while Android apps downloaded this way from Samsung Apps are installed automatically, Samsung Wave device owners (different Wave models) have to initiate the installation by clicking on the Ticker.

So what do we make out of it? Well, it’s good to see the Korean company hasn’t forgot about its own app store, even though their Android app store isn’t as nearly as used as the default Android Market. As a Galaxy S II owner I can’t recall the last time I’ve hit the Samsung Apps icon, what about you? Are you checking it out from time to time?
