A company called DiD Corporation is planning to start shipping this unofficial Steve Jobs action figure (see: doll) in late February. It’d be a nice tribute to start distribution on February 24th, Steve Jobs’ birthday. Many professional doll critics are calling it a tad creepy due to how eerily similar it actually looks to Steve Jobs.
I’m on that same boat as well, although I don’t think I’d call it creepy just because it looks nearly identical to Steve Jobs. I think it’s just plain creepy.
While the detail is phenomenal for such a small action figure, the arms completely lack any type of detail whatsoever. Also, one big fault is the fact that Steve Jobs is clearly portrayed as in his early 50s, yet he’s with the original Macintosh, which debuted when Jobs was in his 30s in 1984.
Putting aside my petty remarks, these things are probably going to sell like hot cakes. Steve Jobs has been called the Thomas Edison of our time, and this action figure will make Apple enthusiasts feel like they nabbed a unique slice of history.
The Steve Jobs collectible action figure will retail for $100 plus shipping and has a planned release for the end of February.
