LG unveiled some details on its website about its upcoming handset, the LG Optimus 2 and it will be the sequel to the entry-level Optimus One that was introduced in 2010. This new version isn’t that different from the original, it still carries a lot of features you’d find in a typical mid-range phone.
Specs on the Optimus 2 include:
- 3.2-inch touch display with 320 x 480 pixels
- 800MHz processor
- CDMA EVDO Rev support
- 800/1900MHz bands
- 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and video capture
- Bluetooth 3.0+EDR, GPS, and Wi-Fi
- microSD card, expandable up to 32GB
- 1,500mAh battery
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread
- Swype keyboard pre-installed
As you can see from the spec list above, there’s no feature that’s setting the world on fire. Lets face it, LG can’t make waves in the Android smartphone biz by constantly pushing out phones like this. If anyone is going to take them serious, the company is going to have to be more innovative.
LG didn’t say which network will offer the Optimus 2, but its spectrum support suggest a U.S. CDMA carrier (either Sprint or Verizon Wireless). Besides that, the Optimus 2 appears on the Alltel and CellCom web sites. Cellcom is selling it for $0.95 with a new two-year contract. No off-contract pricing has been announced at this time.
