Android team launches new UI design portal for developers

The Android development team listened to all the high-profile complaints about Android’s less-than-stellar UI and responded with the Android Design website. The team worked hard to improve the UI framework in Android 4.0 and is now giving developers the tools they need to create beautiful apps.

To help developers adopt these sound design principles, the Android team launched a portal filled with guidelines and tips for building the best app UI possible. Developers can learn about typography, app structure and the use of buttons. These may sound trivial to the seasoned developer, but they’re essential for the beginner. A written set of principles is also beneficial for the platform as there will be continuity in both design and function across apps.

Curious about what Google has to say about design? You can check out the guidelines at the Android Design website.
