Toshiba unveils the Excite 10, 7.7, and 13 Android tablets with NVIDIA Tegra 3

Toshiba is looking to take a bite out of the tablet market by introducing three new Android tablets in a variety of sizes. Coming in 7.7 inch, 10 inch, and 13.3 inch versions, Toshiba has brought some interesting devices to the table.

Excite 10

No, this isn’t the same tablet that was rebranded as the Excite 10 LE we saw back at CES earlier this year. The Excite 10 is its very own beast that looks similar but has some different innards that should please you.

As per usual, the 10.1 screen ships with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass. Measuring at just 0.4 inches thick, the Excite 10 is a sleek and powerful tablet with a rather small footprint. The tablet also comes with a 2 megapixel camera on the front, a 5 megapixel camera on the back, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, micro USB, micro HDMI, full-sized SD card slot, and either 16/32/64GB of internal storage.  While we’ll need to test it out ourselves, Toshiba claims that the Excite 10 can give you up to 12 hours of batter life

Powering the tablet would be the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, which should make any task you throw at it smooth as butter. You can also expect to see the Excite 10 ship with stock Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

If you’re already sold on the Excite 10, you won’t have to wait long, as it will ship in early May. Prices start at $449.

Excite 7.7

If you’re one who likes a smaller tablet than the normal 10.1 inch variety, then you should turn your attention to the Excite 7.7. With essentially the same innards as the Excite 10, the little brother ships with an AMOLED display but comes at a higher price.

I like 7 inch tablets a lot and if you’re on the cusp of needing a portable tablet but want a little more room (I mean, very little) than what the current 7 inch tablets offer up today, this should be a tablet to keep your eyes on.  Slightly thinner than its 10 inch cousin, the  Excite 7.7 is only 0.3 inches thick. You’ll also be able to get some crisp and clear colors with the AMOLED display its packing and power through it all with the Tegra 3.

Expect the Excite 7.7 to land some time in June. Prices starting at $500.

Excite 13

Now, if you’re looking to go big or go home with your next tablet, you can do both with the Toshiba 13. This massive Ice Cream Sandwich tablet rocks a 13.3 inch screen and is optimal for home use. The large display sports a 1600 x 900 resolution, which is one of the fewer Android tablets today to surpass  1280 x 800. Toshiba calls this a HD Plus display and also says that this is more like a laptop’s screen than any other tablet around.

Like the Excite 10, you’ll still find the same 5 megapixel rear camera, 2 megapixel front-facing camera, NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core CPU, as well as the micro USB, micro HDMI, full-sized SD card slot and in 32GB/64GB versions. Some regions will receive a version of the device that come with a TV tuner, the US not being one of them. You’ll also get a tablet stand for the Excite 13 in the box. At 2.2 pounds, we’re glad to see this addition.

The large slate is being pushed as a home tablet and Toshiba believe it introduces a “sharing element”. We’ll have to see about that when we get some hands on time with it, but we’ll probably just be a little overwhelmed by the size. Or in awe.

Such a large tablet will come with a large price tag, too. The 32GB version of the Excite will run you $629 and arrive on shelves in June.
