Waterkeeper Alliance, which is a network of 200 water protection groups worldwide, launched a new app to help beach goers, swimmers and surfers find that perfect stretch of sand and water. Available as a free download for iOS and Android devices, the application not only lets you easily locate the closest and cleanest beach, but also provides you with directions and photos to help you determine if the water is safe for swimming. Moreover, the social network integration also comes built-in so you can share your whole adventure with friends and family.

In total, Swim Guide includes descriptions and photographs of nearly 1,300 beaches in California and across North America, including Miami, FL; Mobile, AL; the Great Lakes, British Columbia and Alberta. The monitoring data comes from than 100 different sources and more than 128,000 points of data. The application will continue to expand until it covers beaches in every major beach community in North America…
