iPhone 5 continues the prepaid trend, lands at Cricket September 28th

Earlier this year, the iPhone dabbled in the prepaid market, offering non-contract iPhone 4 and 4S devices on Cricket and Virgin Mobile. As you’re probably aware by now, Apple announced the iPhone 5 yesterday, and we’re happy to report that Cricket has announced it’ll carry the iPhone 5 sans contract just one week later than it launches in the traditional retail chains, with sales beginning September 28th.

No official price points were given by Cricket, though we expect Cricket to continue to offer at least a partial subsidy on the iPhone. The 4S currently retails for $499 for the 16GB model, $150 less than the full retail price, and the 4 currently sits at $399. If the trend continues, the 5 will take the place of the 4S at the $499 price point, and the iPhone 4S will see a $100 price cut. We should hear more from Cricket soon, as there are just two short weeks until the iPhone 5 is expected to hit store shelves.
