Google Play store officially open for business in India — Nexus 7 first device being sold

Google has finally opened up device sales through its Play Store to folks living in India. At the moment, the only device available for purchase is the 16GB WiFi Nexus 7. The 7-inch Google tablet will run customers 15,999 rupees ($294) and should deliver by April 5th. This doesn’t seem like much for people who are fortunate enough to have these kind of choices to buy whatever they want. Yet this is an important step for Indians in getting a much more complete Google Play experience down the road.

As a result, Google gets to enter in a market that holds 1 billion people. If the search giant ever wants to be taken seriously in retail, it must spread to every major industrialized country in the world. It’s a win for Google and those who live in India.
