Last week, Samsung held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new mobile phone plant in Vietnam. Located in Yen Binh Industrial Park in Thai Nguyen city, it will cost $2 billion to build and be able to produce 120 million units annually once it hits the full production capacity in 2015. Until then, the Korean company will make as many phones as possible since the full capacity will be reached in stages.
Perhaps more significant is the fact that Sammy’s existing phone plant in the country is already capable of producing 120 million units per year. In other words, Samsung is bullish on its prospects and is setting the stage to pretty much rule the mobile market. We’ll see how that goes…
